This superb pictured 13+1/2″ American Bowie knife was purchased from a premier collector Cindy Taylor and husband 20 some years ago. I was told the knife was made by a company that specialized in making surgical knives on the East Coast . There is a lot going on here. The knife is extremely well made and contains an insert Pike Co. H & F Club. The etching on the blade is worn another testament to its age and use. The name Barnegat appears on the brass guard along with some other writing. Frog is intact but worn. Generally not found. This was a large investment at the time. One would be hard pressed to find a similar knife with this provenance in this condition made in America. We estimate the knife to be made somewhere in the late 1800s and passed down through a prominent family.
